October 30, 2024,
Northwest Local School District Staff, Families and Community Members,
This afternoon, at 2:45 PM, Northwest High School went into a full lockdown, regarding an incident that took place during dismissal on Stout Rd. NWLSD schools in close proximity were also placed in a full lockdown by District Administration out of precaution. All other NWLSD schools were placed in an instructional lockdown, where students remain in their classrooms learning and all exterior doors are locked. This is done as a precautionary measure to ensure staff and students are aware of the heightened security.
NWLSD worked closely with the Colerain Township Police during this situation. At this time, we know that two unknown individuals off campus approached and confronted a NWHS student during dismissal. The two individuals fled the area. A weapon was recovered off campus after the incident.
The school went into a lockdown to keep everyone safe. At 3:24p.m. NWHS began the process of releasing students to be reunited with their families through a controlled release. The lockdown was lifted after all students were reunified with their families.
As always safety is our top priority. We want to assure you that we are committed to providing a safe and respectful learning environment for all students. We want to thank the students who reported the information to the NWHS Administrative Team. We encourage students and families to always See Something, Say Something, and to report any and all suspicious, concerning behaviors and happenings to an adult.
We know that students and families may be emotionally impacted by this situation. Your support and understanding mean the world to us as we move through this challenging situation. The Counseling Department remains available for support for our families and students. Please contact us if counseling support is needed.
At this time, the Police believe that this incident is isolated. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be increased police presence on the Northwest High School Campus on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Anyone who has any additional information, please reach out to the Colerain Township Police Department at 513-321-COPS (2677).
We will continue to keep you updated as more information becomes available. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in maintaining a safe learning environment.
