NWLSD Transitions Academy: Connecting For Student Success
At Northwest Local School District’s Transitions Academy, we understand the path to success does not always look the same for all students. When a traditional academic setting is not ideal*, home school administration may refer a student for placement at Transitions Academy (TA). Students attending TA benefit from smaller staff-student ratios, a modified school day, varied instructional modalities, and individualized social-emotional-behavioral supports.
Individualized academic learning plans developed at the start of placement
Direct access to licensed social worker daily
Students can still remain connected to home school and school activities
Access to school-based resources and community supports
Online and in-person learning experience
Small group tutoring
1-to-1 Chromebooks
And so much more...
Mission
The Mission of Transitions Academy is to provide a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment where all students are encouraged and supported to achieve next-step goals.
Vision
Teaching and Learning at Transitions Academy will:
Include the design of individualized learning plans that accommodate the academic, social, and emotional strengths and needs of all students
Provide a culture of safety and acceptance
Develop positive relationships among all members of every student's team
Promote respect and accountability to prepare all students for a future of self-sustainability
Our staff is trained in both Restorative and Trauma-Informed Practices. We understand the importance of building and maintaining supportive, ongoing relationships with students and families, and believe this is a critical component to establishing a safe, welcoming environment to promote student success.
Modified Schedule Times:
Session One: 7:30 AM—10:15 AM
Session Two: 11:00 AM—1:45 PM
Students are required to attend Monday - Friday during their scheduled session time.
All program options at Transitions Academy utilize a modified attendance plan. Regardless of the program option type, all students are required to complete a minimum of 30 hours of academic activities each (5 day) week*. Because a portion of these hours must be completed independently outside the school day, regular access to the internet outside of school is necessary and critical for student success. *Hourly requirements are based on the number of days in the school week.
Transitions Academy (TA) is a referral-based, off-site academic program for students in grades 6 –12 attending one of the following NWLSD schools:
Colerain High School
Northwest High School
Colerain Middle School
Pleasant Run Middle School
White Oak Middle School
